Machakos County 2023/2024 Financial Year Budget was read on Tuesday 20th June 2023 and approved by MCAs the same day.
Machakos County Assembly Budget Committee Chairperson Dominic Ndambuki tabled the report of the Budget and Appropriations Committee which was unanimously approved by the house. Here is a breakdown of the Budget Department wise;
The Department of Health has a recurrent budget of 4.6 Billion, a development budget of 984 Million, and a total budget of 5.56 Billion.
Department of Devolution has a recurrent budget of 959 Million, a development budget of 45 Million, and a total budget of 1.5 Billion.
Department of Agriculture and Cooperatives has a recurrent budget of 379 million, a development budget of 842 million, and a total budget of 1.22 billion.
Department of Finance, economic planning, and revenue management has a recurrent budget of 931 million, a development budget of 262 million, and a total budget of 1.19 billion.
Department of Roads, infrastructure and public works has a recurrent budget of 247 million, a development budget of 745 million, and a total budget of 933 million.
The Department of Water has a recurrent budget of 134 million, a development budget of 788 million, and a total budget of 922 million.
The Department of Education has a recurrent budget of 546 million, a development budget of 193 million, and a total budget of 740 million.
Department of Trade, Industry, and Tourism has a recurrent budget of 178 million, a development budget of 550 million, and a total budget of 728 million.
The Department of Land, Urban Development and Housing has a recurrent budget of 255 million, a development budget of 182 million, and a total budget of 408 million.
The Department of Gender, Women, and Youth has a recurrent budget of 124 million, a development budget of 182 million, and a total budget of 317 million.
The County Public Service Board has a recurrent budget of 38 million, a development budget of 20 million, and a total budget of 58 million.
Machakos County Assembly has a recurrent budget of 1.14 billion, a development budget of 292 million, and a total budget of 1.43 billion.
The office of the County Attorney has a recurrent budget of 50 million, a development budget of 9.3 million, and a total budget of 60.26 million.
The Office of the Governor has a recurrent budget of 580 million, a development of 19 million, and a total budget of 600 million.
Addressing the media after presenting the budget Finance CEC Onesmus Kuyu said that the budget was aimed at achieving what Governor Wavinya Ndeti had promised the electorate during her campaigns of changing livelihoods.
“The budget is based on the County government’s socio-economic policy of transforming the livelihoods of the people of Machakos as well as attain Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s slogan “Chakula Mezani, Pesa Mfukoni,” said Kuyu.
He revealed that the budget was funded by the following: 9.5 Billion equitable share, 2.99 Billion own source revenue, 1.09 Billion Conditional grants as well as 1 Billion Health Revenue.
The total recurrent Budget is 9.6 Billion and development is 5.1 Billion totaling 14.72 Billion. The development budget is 34 percent of the whole budget and is above the 30 percent threshold required by PFMA,2012.
