Former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka has explained why he turned down Ruto’s job offer last month.
Munyaka was appointed in October to be the chair of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Center Board. However, he declined the position the next day to the surprise of many..
The former MP says the position was insulting to him and to the Kamba community.
According to Munyaka, the offer was disrespectful and showed a lack of regard for his community.
He believes losing his MP seat was God’s way of protecting him from political harm.
He added that the current government has taken the wrong path, and Kenyans have lost faith in it.
“I come from a region of warriors,” Munyaka said. “When I looked at the position, I felt it was not right for me. They seem to take the Kamba community lightly.”
Munyaka also mentioned that he counted at least five Kamba leaders who were in high positions but were fired. In a move to compensate he was then offered the ‘small’ post to confuse the Kambas.
“They offered me this small role just to keep us quiet. I don’t want it, even if it’s a ministerial post it as long as it’s from this government let it be,” he added.
Munyaka’s remarks point out a fall out with President Ruto. The former MP was a key foot soldier of the president ahead of the 2022 elections and had been earlier considered for a CAS position.
