The Makueni school administration speaks on Sunday’s fire incident

On Sunday, October 24th, fire gutted down a dormitory in the Makueni school leaving the school and learners counting losses.

Two students inhaled smoke as they tried battling the fire but they were attended to in hospital and discharged. At the time of the fire, the students were in class.

Dennis Owino the school headteacher blamed electric fault for the fire noting that they had power surges from Sunday morning.

“It has happened that today we had a fire in our school. Since morning we have been having electrical surge – loss of electricity here and there. We suspect that might have caused the fire.” Owino said.

“The boys’ dorm was closed and pupils were in their classes. We suspect it was an electrical fault. More investigations will be conducted and the information given to the parents. All the parents with students here your children are safe.” The headteacher assured.

Makueni county fire brigade arrived at the school when the fire was at an advanced stage and managed to save three streams with boxes, mattresses, and other items.
