East Africa Community, ASALs, and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza has irked a section of UKambani leaders over relief food distribution.
The CS has been traversing parts of Kitui County giving relief food to locals.
Kitui Women Rep Irene Kasalu told the Cabinet Secretary that locals do not need relief food as it is harvest time asking her to instead bring water projects.
“When Peninah Malonza almost lost her chance to be CS after vetting, I brought a motion to parliament that saved her as she is a daughter of Kitui and she became CS. If it was not for that motion she would not have become a cabinet secretary. We see her distributing relief food when we are now harvesting. We want to see her bring us Water and roads.” Kasalu said while speaking in Mwingi.
Kasalu’s remarks were echoed by Kilome MP Thaddeus Nzambia who said, “There is one CS from Ukambani who boards a helicopter to come and lie to our people with a kilo or two of food. Those are KANU days, like other CSs she should bring water, electricity, and other projects. We are not to be treated as trash as Kambas.”
Yatta MP Robert Basil also called on president Ruto’s administration to respect the Kamba community.
“We ask the government to respect the Kamba community. We don’t want the issue of giving 3 kilos of food in Ukambani. We need dams and projects that will make people self-sustaining. Our roads need tarmac and we need development like the rest of the country as we are also tax payers. ” Basil said.
