MP Kiamba calls for Thwake dam construction to resume

Makueni MP Susan Kiamba has cakes upon the Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation Alice Wahome to ensure the construction of Thwake dam resumes.

Addressing the media on Sunday Kiamba said that the construction had stalled for over a month now.

She noted that if this continues the construction of the 81B project may not end in the stipulated time.

“The CS promised the construction will end in June next year but for over a month, the work has stalled. It’s now one year to the completion time and no activity is going on,” said Kiamba.

She observed that there is a need for a survey to be conducted to show the water will be piped to which towns and where irrigation will occur.

Also, she added that the cleaning of River Athi which will be the main source of water for the dam should have already started.

Her sentiments were supported by Wiper party-nominated MCA Joyce  Mwende who said the project is the solution to water problems in the region.

She called upon leaders from the county to rally and push for the project to be completed soon and for the people to benefit.
