Benga artist Mike Mteja has dropped a fresh track titled Nivathelu Mwa, taking aim at fellow musician Alex Kasau, popularly known as Katombi.
The song pulls no punches, as Mteja boldly calls out Katombi for alleged hypocrisy in the music industry.
In the song’s opening, Mteja sets the tone with proverbial pointed lyrics: “I once said that an eye about to go blind first sheds tears, and a woman on her way out starts dressing modestly and turns cold. I keep releasing music, but some fans mainly followers of that guy from Kitui claim I lack talent. Still, I won’t stay silent.”
Mteja doesn’t hold back as he accuses Katombi of doing exactly what he criticizes others for.
According to Mteja, Katombi has been quick to accuse fellow artists of copying songs while he allegedly borrows beats from others as seen in his latest song ‘Kasuva’.
“You used to call out others for copyrighting songs, but now you’re doing the same, using Kimangu and Katitu beats, and when asked you claim there is no original beat,” Mteja sings.
This latest release, which has quickly racked up nearly 10,000 views, could reignite the long-standing beef between the two artists. In May this year, Mteja released another song dissing Katombi.
Fans have flooded the comment section with mixed reactions, with some supporting Mteja’s call-out and others defending Katombi.
Dennis Mwongela, questioned why Mteja only releases songs after Katombi, suggesting that he should drop a track first to prove he’s the real deal, while another, Erick Kei, argued that Mteja lacks creativity.
Kataka Boys Band boldly declared that “Katombi is done,” even encouraging others to confirm it with Kawendi Junior.
In contrast, Ben Mulwa pointedly remarked that even if Katombi stopped making music, Mteja still wouldn’t outshine him.
Ken Mwengi chimed in with a reminder that Mteja seems fixated on songs about “bazu.”
