Machakos Nurses celebrate International nurses and midwives day

Machakos County Health CEC Dr. Daniel Yumbya on Thursday joined nurses in Machakos to celebrate international nurses day.

Speaking at Machakos Level 5 hospital during the celebrations and award giving to the best nurses, Yumbya lauded the nurses and health workers for tirelessly working to save lives.

“This is one of the greatest days and weeks during which people internationally celebrate nurses for their work. Most of the time, their lives are always in danger especially when dealing with people with mental disorders, patients with diseases which can be transmitted, working for long hours and we honor them for that”, CEC Yumbya said.

Dr. Yumbya also assured the medical experts that the Governor, Wavinya Ndeti was going to fulfill what she promised them during last year’s campaigns, one being promotion to the nurses who qualify to be promoted.

He said that the government is aware that when a nurse goes on leave, medical services are usually not offered well in hospitals in facilities that have one or few nurses. To curb this challenge, the CEC promised that the County Government was going to recruit more nurses.

The International Nurses Week begins on May 6 and ends on May 12 each year. It is observed to acknowledge their role in healthcare.
