Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has called on Kenyan leaders to exercise restraint and wisdom in their public statements, warning that reckless remarks are fueling growing frustration among the youth, particularly Generation Z.
Speaking during a series of church visits across Machakos County, Governor Wavinya expressed concern over the tone and language used by some political leaders, saying such rhetoric has only deepened tensions with young people.
“The Gen Z generation is clearly dissatisfied, and much of it stems from the way some leaders speak about national issues. We must lead with wisdom and empathy,” she said.
The governor noted that high levels of unemployment remain a key factor behind the unrest and disillusionment among the youth. She urged both national and county governments to prioritize job creation and empowerment programs to provide young people with meaningful opportunities.
“If we want to keep our youth off the streets, we must give them something to wake up to every morning — productive work and hope for a better future. When the youth are idle, it’s no surprise they engage in protests out of frustration,” she added.
Governor Wavinya emphasized that her administration is youth-conscious and has lined up several programs aimed at addressing their needs and aspirations.
Her remarks come amid a wave of youth-led protests across the country, with young Kenyans demanding transparency, accountability, economic reforms, and greater respect from the political class.
