Murkomen’s directives to Police Provoke DG Mwangangi’s Fury

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has taken a swipe at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of making reckless and divisive statements that risk destabilizing the country.

Speaking in Matungulu, Mwangangi urged national leaders to exercise restraint and responsibility in their public utterances, especially during a time when the country is experiencing political tension.

“Murkomen is my friend, but as leaders, we must be mindful of what we say. Our words should unite Kenyans, not divide them. The more he speaks in that tone, the more Kenyans become resistant to the government,” said Mwangangi.

He went further to criticize Murkomen’s alleged directive to police officers to shoot and kill protesters who invade police stations, warning that such instructions undermine constitutional rights and could fuel further unrest.

“The more Murkomen speaks, the more Kenyans are divided, the more Kenyans resist the government,” he noted.

The Deputy Governor also questioned the apparent double standards in how the law is applied, citing the summoning of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over incitement, while other leaders making similar or worse remarks walk free.

“Don’t be selective in enforcing the law. Whether one is in government or opposition, they should be held accountable equally. If Gachagua is questioned, Sudi too, and other leaders in the government should be questioned,” Mwangangi went on.

He called on President William Ruto to be more discerning when appointing Cabinet Secretaries, noting that their public conduct plays a critical role in shaping national unity and public trust.
