Kangundo Residents Embrace SHIF Registration as Myths Are Debunked

Kangundo residents now have something to smile about as the long-awaited rollout of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) registration takes root in the sub-county.

This initiative promises not only to bring healthcare closer to locals but also to eliminate the financial burdens often associated with medical care.

The registration drive kicked off on Wednesday at Kangundo Level Four Hospital, where health officials rallied the community to participate.

Dr. Juliet Ngina, the hospital’s medical superintendent, was at the forefront of the campaign, urging residents to register for the new health fund without hesitation.

She emphasized that SHIF would provide more comprehensive coverage, addressing both inpatient and outpatient needs, a significant upgrade from the previous National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

“We want every resident in Kangundo to have access to affordable and quality healthcare,” Dr. Ngina stated.

She noted that SHIF registration will continue at Kangundo Level Four Hospital for the foreseeable future, ensuring that everyone who needs information or assistance can get it.

The process, she assured, is straightforward, and there will be staff on hand to address any queries residents may have about the new scheme.

Dr. Ngina also addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding SHIF, encouraging locals not to fall prey to misinformation.

“There are many rumors out there, but this fund is here to help us. It’s a crucial part of our healthcare journey. I urge everyone to register and experience the benefits,” she added.

Kangundo Level Four Hospital remains fully operational despite the ongoing doctors’ strike, with staff dedicated to ensuring essential services and the SHIF registration process are unaffected.

This stability in services has been a relief for many residents, who feared disruptions in healthcare during the strike.

The rollout of SHIF represents a significant step toward achieving universal health coverage in Kangundo and beyond, and local officials hope the model will inspire greater trust and participation in the government’s health initiatives.
