Former Machakos Health CEC and 2027 senatorial aspirant Dr. Daniel Yumbya has lauded President William Ruto for appointing the newly constituted Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) team.
Speaking during a public engagement in Tala, Machakos County, Yumbya congratulated the new commissioners and challenged them to focus on restoring public trust in the commission by delivering credible, transparent, and fair elections.
“This is a fresh start for the IEBC. The new commissioners must work to gain the confidence of Kenyans by conducting themselves with integrity, fairness, and professionalism,” he said.
Yumbya also urged the electoral body to urgently address regions where by-elections are pending, noting that delays in representation can hurt democratic processes at the grassroots level.
He warned the commissioners against being used as political tools, saying their credibility would be at stake if they showed any signs of partiality.
“Kenyans are watching. The commission must rise above political influence and serve the country with independence and honesty. Any form of bias will only breed distrust and tension,” he added.
Yumbya, who is positioning himself for a senatorial bid in 2027, emphasized the importance of strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring a level playing field for all candidates ahead of the next general election.
He added that elected leaders should strive to deliver to the electorates while exuding confidence of a landmark win in 2027.
