Yumbya speaks after uproar on Kangundo mortuary state

Machakos County Executive Committee Member for Health Daniel Yumbya has requested patience from residents who rely on Kangundo Hospital mortuary.

Yumbya announced that the renovation, which involves replacing outdated equipment with new, modern machinery, is set to be completed by the end of next week.

He explained that the existing equipment at the mortuary was too old to be repaired effectively, necessitating a complete overhaul.

“The mortuary’s equipment was no longer viable for repairs. To ensure the facility meets current standards and serves the community effectively, we opted to install new equipment. This will provide a long-term solution rather than a temporary fix,” Yumbya elaborated.

“I want to assure the residents of Kangundo and nearby areas that the mortuary will soon be operational again. Your patience and understanding during this renovation period are greatly appreciated.”He added.

Early Last month, Health CAS Rashid Kala when visiting the hospital announced that the facility had been handed to the contractor and would be ready after 10 days. That however did not happen and locals currently have to use Kathiani or Machakos level 5 mortuary when their loved ones pass.

Yumbya also dismissed rumors about inadequate patient care at the hospital, emphasizing that patients are being well taken care of, including receiving essential provisions like food and water.

“We have come across unfounded rumors claiming that patients at Kangundo Hospital are not being provided with food and water. I want to categorically state that these allegations are false. The hospital continues to deliver all necessary care to its patients,” Yumbya stated.
