Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua Friday told off other leaders from ukambani that intend to contest for the presidency in 2022. According to Mutua, the leaders will be spoiling his bid. The Governor was speaking at Kalukuni, Kithimani during the funeral of Lazarus Maliti brother to Machakos Deputy Governor Eng. Francis Maliti.

The Governor also said that he will not be relying on Kamba votes alone for him to be president. “Even if all Kambas in Kenya and the world vote for me and all other tribes fail to, I cannot be the president of Kenya.”

“The Kenyan President must receive support from across the whole country. Those other aspirants from Ukambani are the ones spoiling for me.” Mutua added.

Kitui Deputy Governor Dr. Wathe Nzau who also attended the funeral thanked Machakos MCAs for putting their differences aside and agreeing to work with the County Executive.

Dr. Wathe also praised the three Ukambani Governors for working together for the sake of development. “The three Ukambani Governors have united, Prof. Kibwana of Makueni, Dr. Alfred Mutua of Machakos and Charity Ngilu of Kitui. It is a rare occasion.”

He further lauded the South Eastern Kenya Economic Bloc saying it will bring development to Ukambani. Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo lobbied for the tarmacking of Kithimani – kikesa – Katangi road.

Machakos County Assembly speaker Florence Mwangangi was also at the funeral accompanied by MCAs from the County.
