Yatta MP calls out leaders taking credit for projects he spearheaded

Yatta MP Robert Basil has openly criticized some local leaders taking credit for development projects he has spearheaded, using them to bolster their political standing.

Speaking in Kambi ya Ndeke sub-location, Kithimani Ward, Basil urged these leaders to focus on their own responsibilities instead of portraying his efforts as theirs.

Expressing frustration, Basil pointed to a recent street lighting project in the Kithimani and Matuu markets, which he lobbied for at the national level.

He highlighted how certain leaders rushed to the project sites after installations began, taking photos to give residents the impression that they had led the initiative.

“When devolution came it gave different responsibilities to national and county governments, There are people who are taking credit for my work, every time I launch a project they immediately run and take photos yet my people know that is not their responsibility,” lamented Basil.

The first time MP warned these leaders to be careful because the voters know what their responsibilities should be and if they don’t perform they will dealt with.

“I want to tell those who are fighting me that when you insult Basil, you insult the people who voted for me. They are watching you closely, and they will remember this when the time comes,” Basil stated.

Further, Basil announced plans to establish the first Huduma Centre in Kithimani, which would provide residents with essential government services locally, reducing the need to travel to Machakos.

He also shared news of a new land registry office in Kithimani, which will store land records for Yatta and Masinga residents, streamlining land management in the area.

Addressing those exploiting residents seeking land services, Basil warned, “To the cartels who have been conning the people of Yatta when they go for service at Machakos, I want to warn them that their time is over because, as the MP, I am committed to serving my people.”
