9 suspects linked to the theft of construction materials at the Wote Stadium were arrested Wednesday night amidst gunfire.
The purported heist unfolded on Wednesday, January 24th, around 11 pm.
The police successfully recovered stolen construction materials loaded in a lorry.
Confirming the arrests, Sub County Police Commander Winnie Siele disclosed the suspects were caught attempting to make off with stolen goods. Unfortunately, some of their accomplices managed to evade capture, escaping in a white Xtrail car.
Ms. Siele, addressing the incident, expressed gratitude to the community for promptly reporting the suspicious activity.
“We received intelligence information from members of the public that they had spotted suspicious characters at the site trying to steal. Our officers responded swiftly and arrested the nine individuals,” she stated.
The crackdown was not without its challenges, with one officer sustaining injuries and currently undergoing treatment at the Makueni County Referral Hospital.
Efforts are underway to locate additional suspects who managed to evade the police in a private vehicle.
