The three Ukambani Governors, (Dr. Alfred Mutua of Machakos, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana of Makueni, and Charity Ngilu of Kitui) have said that they will support the Presidential candidate from Ukambani who can attract nationwide support.

Addressing the press after a SEKEB meeting, Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua and who has widely spoken about his interest in the presidential seat said that he will support any leader from Ukambani eyeing the same seat and who will be accepted nationally.

In July 2019 while in Isiolo, Mutua announced that he will be holding talks with like-minded politicians to build a strong coalition before the 2022 general elections.

“At the end of the day we have to work together regardless of our ambitions and ambitions are good. I will still continue with my quest for the presidency, Kibwana will continue with his quest as well as others but what we want is that at the end of it all we have one leader from our region who will vie for the seat and the one who will be able to be supported by all Kenyans not Kamba’s alone because one cannot be president by Ukambani votes alone, ” said Mutua.

His words were echoed by Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana who said that they will support the leader with the greatest support from Ukambani without putting their interest ahead of the Kamba people.

“If I vie for the seat, Mutua does that too there is no contradiction we are moving forward to seek for leadership and Kenyans will decide for themselves and we will accept the outcome, whoever they see fit we shall accept be it me or Mutua or even Ngilu you might never know the interest of Kenyans. When Kenyans say it is so and so it shall be democratic for all of us and we shall support, ” said Kibwana.

The three governors had met to discuss matters concerning the South Eastern Kenya Economic Block (SEKEB) where Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua to chair the committee.
