Several Ukambani Politicians from different political parties have defected to the ruling Party United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The defectors are from Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, Wiper Party, Chama Cha Uzalendo Party, Muungano Party, and several other parties as well as independent parties.
UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala revealed that the party had received Former Candidates like Ex- Kitui Senator David Musila, Lucas Muthoka, and Stephen Kyalo while former Women Representative aspirants from Machakos who defected were Rita Ndunge and Selina Mwende.
Former Machakos CEC for Health Dr. Ancent Kituku who last election vied for an MP seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket also defected with other 17 Parliamentary Candidates, and 70 MCA candidates from the region also defected to UDA.
“We stand to receive members from the Ukambani region majorly from Maendeleo Chap Chap, Wiper Party, Muungano Party, CCU, and other parties. We have received Gubernatorial Candidate Rose Mulwa and Deputy Governor Candidate Rose Ndinda, Women Reps, MP Candidates as well as MCA’s,” said Malala.
The Secretary-General addressing the press said that as a party they would ensure that would be different from other parties and stick to the ideals of the Party as well as support the government.
“The leaders have been enslaved in political cocoons, our projection as Party is that we will stick to the ideals of the party give an opportunity to everyone equally and continue supporting the government,” he went on.
Speaking to Mauvoo News, Former Matungulu MP Aspirant Dr. Philip Munyao who vied for the seat on an Independent ticket noted that he joined the UDA party because it nurtured the youths and there was more space for them to grow.
“I have joined UDA party because it is a party that has a PLAN, where youths are nurtured to take up leadership roles and champion social-economic transformation in the society. A party that portrays the nation’s unity and tranquility,” said Dr. Philip.
“UDA is a party firmly committed to pursuing the route of unity and cohesion for development as a means of supporting the remarkable call of socioeconomic transformation,” he added.
The defections come ahead of President William Ruto’s visit to Machakos on 16th April.
