Irate youths on Thursday morning attacked and injured Nguutani ward MCA Stephen Katana in Mwingi, Kitui county.
Katana told the press that he was heading to Migwani market when he was attacked by a group of youths.
The youths accused him of voter bribery in the ongoing Kyome/Thaana ward by-elections.
Katana said that he recognized some of the youths to be followers of a certain politician vying in the by-election.
He claimed that the youths took 500,000 from him during the attack.
The incident was reported at Kanyaa police post.
The incident was confirmed by Kazungu Charo, Migwani sub-county police boss who said that the attacks happened at around 4:30 am.
Charo confirmed that investigations were ongoing to solve the mystery adding that the MCA was on a motorbike during the incident and not his own car.
“We have to know what he was doing out at 4 am in the morning with such an amount of money and a motorbike and not his personal car,” said the police boss.
