Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti is among seven women Governors that won gubernatorial elections in the 2022 general elections.
Wavinya was contesting for the third time for the seat.
She was able to win despite petitioners moving to court to stop her bid claiming her ‘degree’ was fake.
As she is serving her first term, it is expected that she will seek a second term in 2027 but it’s no secret she will face tough competition from top politicians who are eyeing the seat.
Here are Politicians salivating for the Governor’s seat and likely to vie in the next general elections.
Nzioka Waita
He vied in 2022 and emerged second with 121,189 votes which was quite impressive considering it was his first time vying for elective office.
Waita beat flamboyant politician Johnson Muthama and Francis Maliti who was the outgoing Deputy Governor.
Patrick Makau
The third term Mavoko Member of Parliament had shown interest in 2022 but on the way he shelved his bid and supported Wavinya Ndeti.
Though his campaigns were short-lived Makau proved to be a formidable competitor who may be a threat to Wavinya in 2027.
Charles Kilonzo
He is the former Yatta Member of Parliament and vied for the Governorship in 2017 as an independent candidate.
Although he lost, Kilonzo is not a politician to brush off. In 2027, he could be a viable choice mostly for people in Masinga and Yatta constituencies who have never had a Governor.
Johnson Muthama
Although he got a bruising defeat I’m the last election under no circumstances should anyone dismiss the former Senator.
Considering his new position at the National Government he may come back to the seat more than ever in 2027/
