Police in Kangundo sub-county of Machakos County have launched investigations after the death of a 14-year old boy who passed on after eating stolen sugarcane from a farm in Kikambuani, Kangundo sub-county.
Confirming the incident Kikambuani sublocation Assistant chief Leonard King’oo said that the boy was in the company of his 17-year old brother when the deceased started shaking and fainted and upon checking on him he had already died.
Chief Leonard said that the boys who come from the neighborhood had been seen for a while loitering around and asking for food as they had come from a broken family.
“Those are boys that just loiter around here, they come from a broken family and they have been asking for food from different areas. Today they went to a shamba in the area where they were eating sugarcane when the boy fainted and died on the spot,” he said.
Residents in the area had a hard time convincing the brother to the deceased not to commit suicide as he wanted to commit suicide after his brother died.
“He ate sugarcane and died! They had cut off some sugarcane, we have had to save the brother after he wanted to jump in a river and commit suicide, said one of the eyewitnesses.
