Statehouse midnight meetings? Kalonzo speaks out

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has denied allegations that he has been making secret visits to State House under the cover of darkness, dismissing the claims as malicious rumors intended to discredit him.

Addressing the press, Kalonzo called out those spreading the accusations, assuring his supporters that his focus on national issues remains unwavering.

“People have all kinds of wild speculations—some say I’ve been going to State House at midnight. Washindwe kabisa! We are very clear on our way forward,” he said. “In fact, we will issue a comprehensive statement before Jamhuri Day.”

Kalonzo also took the opportunity to criticize the government for failing to constitute a new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

He accused the administration of deliberately stalling the process, suggesting it was part of a broader scheme to weaken electoral reforms and evade accountability.

“The delay in forming a new IEBC is long overdue. It’s almost as if this government’s agenda is to ensure there’s no IEBC at all,” Kalonzo charged. “They should marshal the same energy they used to impeach former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.”

The Wiper leader revealed that Azimio had met its obligation to nominate a panelist for the IEBC selection committee within a tight 48-hour deadline, putting forward the name of renowned governance expert Dr. Koki Muli.

However, Kalonzo alleged that certain individuals within the government were uneasy about her competence and independence.

“There are people afraid of Dr. Koki Muli’s abilities. When Azimio was tasked to nominate someone, we acted swiftly and submitted her name. But now, the government seems to be dragging its feet,” he said.

Kalonzo assured Kenyans that Azimio would not remain silent in the face of government inaction and falsehoods, promising to “put these people on their toes” whenever necessary.

“As leaders, we will speak when it matters and ensure that Kenyans are not taken for granted. The lies and delays surrounding the IEBC must end,” he said.
