Sonko Rescue Team has come to the rescue of a Athi River girl who has been walking for ten kilometers daily to view the body of her late mother in Kitengela Sub County Hospital Mortuary. This the girl has been doing for the last 9 months. Dann Mwangi a journalist brought the issue to the limelight through his Twitter Account.

Maureen had earlier given the Kitengela sub county hospital permission to dispose her mum’s body but she still had the urge to burry her mother. Her mother was not married and all their land was sold.

Maureen’s mother got unwell and she was admitted at the same hospital where she passed on after a week. The hospital bill was 163,000 but the Kitengela sub county hospital waived it.

She there after required 20,000 to burry her mother as she has no work and relies on casual jobs. Her neighbours at Slaughter slums in Athi River managed to raise 4,500.” I have searched for help everywhere, I have gone everywhere but there is no help for me.” Maureen said.

Sonko Rescue team immediately moved to help the girl. They cleared all the bills and further went ahead to donate food to the neighbors who helped Maureen raise 4,500 shillings. The team also announced that the girl will be given a job by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

“Sonko rescue team has cleared everything. We have scheduled the funeral for this Friday. I want to say this, this is Machakos County, Mavoko. The girl told me that Governor Mutua had sent a message and he promised to help. From then he has not picked Maureen’s calls. we have come from Nairobi to help her.” The in charge of the rescue team said.

The neighbors to Maureen said that the last time the roads to the Slaughter slums were repaired is when Wavinya Ndeti was Kathiani MP. They pleaded with the county to fix the roads, drainage and help solve the water crisis.
