Sir Mwenge Bashes Kamba Benga Artists for Skipping Wavinya’s Father Burial

Musyi FM presenter Onesmus Mwengei alias Sir Mwenge has expressed his frustration with Kamba Benga artists who failed to attend the burial of Muthiani Ndonye, the father of his colleague, Irene Wavinya, popularly known as Mwiitu wa Muthiani.

In a passionate outburst, Mwengei accused Benga musicians of considering themselves “too special” to show up and support, despite Wavinya’s contributions to promoting their careers.

“It’s disappointing that these artists, who Irene has helped uplift and popularize, didn’t show up to support her family during this difficult time,” he said.

Mwengei noted a similar absence at the funeral of Mbaitu FM’s Mercy Mawia three months ago.

“How special are you? Gospel artists and media personalities were there, but you were nowhere to be seen,” Mwengei lamented. He pointed out that only one artist, Sanita, was present, calling the lack of turnout “shameful.”

Reflecting on the support presenters have historically provided Benga musicians, Mwengei expressed his decision to withdraw from supporting them in the future.

“I’m often asked to help when a Benga artist is sick or has passed away, but today, I’m saying enough. Let’s live like  God and the devil,” he stated, hinting at a complete break in his relationship with the genre’s artists.

The burial of Wavinya’s father took place last Friday at Kyemwole in Makueni County.
