Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has taken on Deputy President Dr. William Ruto for not taking the “hustlers vaccine” AstraZeneca and instead opting for the Russian Sputnik V vaccine that goes for around 70 dollars.
Mutua took to Twitter saying, ” I was surprised William Ruto amepata vaccine ya wadosi sio ya mwananchi wa kawaida yet he talks of hustler nation who cannot all afford 20,000 for a vaccine. How many wheelbarrows are those from that single dose? Shame on you William Ruto.” Mutua said.
The move resulted in mixed reactions and here is what some Kenyans had to say.
Sandra Chepchumba said, “You are so petty. I don’t know why DP is always on your radar? Anyway, you have the freedom to express yourself but do it with decorum and respect.”
Mali Safi Hylinee said, ” halafu ukifinywa mkono tena utaanza kulia in public.”
Melisa Oluoch said, ” Focus on your race,Daktari. Shine and convince Kenyans that you beat all these others at your job. Keep running. Don’t look on the side at what your competitors are or aren’t doing. You’ll only get distracted. “
“Does Kenya have enough vaccines for all? Those who can afford to buy the vaccine should do that and leave the free ones for the commoners. After all, you folks don’t use the public health care system that we use. Pretending to want to use the same vaccine is very hypocritical.” Nyambecah added.
“By taking the wadosi vaccine with his family, he freed up fourteen or so doses for those who cannot afford to receive. I urge other wadosi to follow suit. The govt has 1m 1k doses. That means it will vaccinate 530k peeps. We need to care for others. If you can afford it, pay. “Terry Njeru added.
“Total rubbish! Whichever vaccine he took is a non-issue, what’s all this fuss, honestly. Stop being petty.” Hillary Ngesu said.
