Senator Maanzo tells off MPs, Defends Gachagua

Makueni Senator Daniel Maanzo has criticized the ongoing attempt to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, calling it a “big joke” and likening it to mob justice.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV’s Day Break program Maanzo claimed that the MPs behind the impeachment push were upset because they expected Gachagua to distribute money to them from his confidential expenditure allocation, which he did not.

“There is nobody in Kenya who isn’t guilty of tribalism. What we’re seeing is mob justice against Gachagua. If wealth is the issue, he should be allowed to declare and explain it,” Maanzo said.

“The MPs wanted Gachagua to hand out something from the confidential budget every Friday. That’s what this is really about.” He added.

The Senator urged Kenyans to vote out the MPs backing the impeachment effort in the next election, calling the move a waste of time.

Ahead of the debate on the impeachment, the National Assembly postponed its Thursday sitting to allow for public participation in the process, with hearing set to begin on Tuesday, October 8.

Maanzo also warned that if Gachagua’s impeachment proceeds, a similar motion could be launched against President William Ruto.
