Section of Machakos Leaders endorse 2027 gubernatorial candidate

A section of leaders from Machakos have endorsed their preferred gubernatorial candidates in the 2027 and 2032 elections.

Led by Machakos Deputy Speaker and Ekalakala Ward MCA Stephen Mwanthi the leaders who spoke in Ndalani said that there was no need for Wavinya to be ousted from her seat without her accomplishing all the plans that she had lined up for Machakos residents.

“I don’t think there is any need for Governor Wavinya to go for one term. We as leaders from Yatta will support Wavinya for two terms because we can see her work is exemplary,” said Mwanthi.

“As leaders from Yatta we have tasted the development by the County government through our governor and there is no need to support another Candidate. In 2027 we are rallying behind Wavinya,” Matuu MCA Julius Mbili Ndawa said.

The leaders also drummed up support for Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi to succeed Wavinya come 2032. Led by former Yatta MP Charles Kilonzo the leaders noted that Mwangangi is an exceptional leader and it would be fit for him to lead after Wavinya.

“I have worked with Mwangangi and you saw he even defeated me. I know him as a servant leader and it’s good for him to take over after Governor Wavinya is done with her 10 years,” Kilonzo said.

His words were echoed by the Leader of Minority in Machakos County Assembly Julius Mbili Ndawa who said that Mwangangi has supported Wavinya whole heartedly and it’s wise in 2032 he takes over from her.

“Mwangangi has supported Wavinya fully and continues to support her. We shall re-elect Wavinya in 2027 but come 2032 we have our own to succeed from her. Mwangangi come 2032 will take over from Wavinya,” he said.

Kinanie Ward MCA who was present during the meeting asked the residents of Yatta to support the Wavinya promising that as Mavoko people they would reciprocate by electing Mwangangi in 2032.

Machakos County CEC for Water, Irrigation, Environment, and Climate Change Catherine Mutanu echoed the words of the rest of the leaders pledging her support to Wavinya’s re-election and Mwangangi’s 2032 bid.

“I am asking people let’s give our governor the peace to work for us. We re-elect her in 2027 so that she can finish her work and I want to assure you DG 2032 we are rallying behind you,” Said Catherine.
