Health Officials from the Ministry of Health and Emergency services in Machakos County are looking for two hawkers who are said to have sneaked into the Kangundo level 4 Isolation Centre and sold foodstuffs to Covid-19 patients isolated in the facility.
According to Machakos Health and Emergency Services CECM Dr. Ancent Kituku, he had gotten information that two hawkers had sneaked to sell bread and boiled eggs to isolated patients in the hospital.
“I’m told it’s the hawkers who had sneaked into the facility to sell eggs and the bread to the patients in our facility Centre and now we are looking for them so they can be put in quarantine because they are people who are known,” he said.
Kituku condemned the behavior by the hawkers saying that was the highest level of irresponsibility for one to go near the patients knowing well that they might be exposed to the virus.
The County Health Boss was responding after locals led by Kangundo Market Chairman Chris Kyalo raised alarm over the security of the Isolation Centre after the incident was reported terming this as a concern to their health.
“Kangundo people should know that since Kangundo Hospital is an Isolation Centre which is functioning, a lot of things have happened and the patients have no one to watch them and the gate has no gatekeeper to guard who enters in the facility,” Kyalo said.
“We witnessed the COVID-19 patients buying eggs and bread from hawkers outside the facility with no one telling them to go back or stay away from the people. We are afraid because the hawkers are mingling with people in the market and this can expose us to the virus,” he added.
