Suspended Transport, Roads and Public Works CECM Rita Ndunge on Wednesday recorded a statement with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over a leaked audio clip in which she allegedly admitted to taking a Ksh. 300,000 bribe from a Matatu Sacco chairperson.
Speaking to journalists in Machakos after the session, Ndunge urged residents to remain calm and patient as investigations proceed, while also requesting their prayers.
“I visited the EACC offices today and recorded my statement. My message to the people of Machakos is to stay calm and pray for me as we await the conclusion of investigations,” she said.
Ndunge expressed confidence in the process, asserting her belief that she would be exonerated once the truth is revealed.
“The EACC is a professional institution, and I am certain that the truth will soon come out,” she added.
The CECM plea for calm follows calls from some Machakos MCAs for her dismissal. The MCAs have accused Ndunge of arrogance and incompetence in her duties, arguing that she is unfit for the position.
Ndunge is currently on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
