Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai has given Cabinet Secretary Health Mutahi Kagwe four days ultimatum to resign from his position failure to which he shall move a motion of impeachment against the CS in Parliament.
Speaking at Tala in Matungulu Subcounty, Mbai said that as legislators they will not allow the CS to run a ministry full of corruption accusing him of being involved.
“Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe should step down as soon as possible to pave way for investigations, I have given him an ultimatum of four days to step down failure to that I Nimrod Mbai , member of parliament Kitui East will move a motion to impeach him because we can not have a minister running a ministry full of corruption yet other ministers found in such a situation get to step down and pave way for investigations, ” he said.
The legislator asked the president to fulfill on his promise of fighting corruption in the country where he said that the president had started well in his fight and he should continue without ceasing saying he should move with speed and fire Mutahi Kagwe.
“Our president during the start of this year was determined to fight corruption where we saw governors being impeached because of corruption and Ministers stepping down. We demand the same to be done to Kagwe, President Uhuru Kenyatta should fire Kagwe because he has been linked to corruption in his ministry, ” he said.
Suspended Kemsa CEO Jonah Manjari had previously told the joint Senate Health and Ad Hoc Committee on Covid-19 that he was receiving numerous calls, short text messages and emails from Health CS Mutahi Kagwe and PS Susan Mochache to award tenders for the provision of various items. The CEO later retracted that statement saying he was not under any pressure.
