President Ruto Speaks ahead of ‘Nane Nane’ Protests

President William Ruto has condemned the ‘Nane Nane’ protests scheduled for Thursday, urging Kenyans to stay away.

Speaking in Embu on Wednesday, Ruto expressed his concerns about the protests, emphasizing their detrimental impact on property and national progress.

“We are a peaceful country. We don’t want chaos in our country; we don’t want protests which lead to deaths and destruction of property.” Ruto said.

During the event, Ruto, who was joined by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, inaugurated several development projects in the area. As the protest date approaches, youth activists have been rallying support for the ‘Nane Nane’ demonstrations, especially through social media.

Meanwhile, Acting Police Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli warned that the demonstrations might be infiltrated by individuals with criminal intentions, posing risks to public safety.

He noted that while initial protests in June were calm, they eventually devolved into riots involving looting and vandalism.

“Our intelligence reports indicate that there are security threats to the country with criminals planning to infiltrate tomorrow’s demonstrations and commit further crimes. In anticipation, we have ensured adequate deployment of personnel,” Masengeli asserted.
