Political giants eyeing Kitui Governor’s seat in 2027

In what promises to be a thrilling political showdown, the Kitui governor’s race in 2027 will be a battle of titans as a line-up of seasoned politicians is already eyeing the seat.

Among those after the governor’s seat is Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu, an economist who promises to manage the county budget efficiently once elected.

Mulu’s candidacy is expected to resonate with voters who are looking for a leader to design and implement effective economic policies that promote sustainable growth, create jobs, and attract investment.

Former Governor Charity Ngilu, who has already declared her interest, poses a significant challenge with her established political base and extensive experience in county leadership.

Ngilu’s tenure and her high-profile return to the political arena add an intriguing twist to the race.

Another contender Women Representative Irene Kasalu has thrown her hat into the ring, aiming to leverage her grassroots support and advocacy for women and youth empowerment.

Her campaign is likely to emphasize social issues and community development from the engagement she has created for the years she’s been in office.

Second-term Senator Enock Kiio Wambua is another contender who should not be ignored.

Known for his legislative prowess and advocacy in the Senate, Wambua’s entry into the race could sway voters looking for strong representation at both local and national levels.

Last on the list is Jonathan Mueke, the current Principal Secretary for the State Department for Sports and Arts, and a former Nairobi Deputy Governor. Mueke’s background in sports and arts, combined with his executive experience, provides a unique platform that could appeal to younger voters and those involved in creative industries.
