Photos: Pomp and Colour as Kitui diocese new Bishop ordained

5 months after Pope Francis appointed Rev. Fr. Joseph Mwongela as the Fourth Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, Mwongela was Saturday (29th August) ordained to shepherd the diocese taking over from Rev. Anthony Muheria who has been serving as the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Kitui since April 2017.

Before his appointment, Father Joseph Mwongela had been serving as the Vicar General of Kitui since 2015.

Rev. Mwongela was ordained by Archbishop Hubertus Van Megen the apostolic nuncio to Kenya assisted by His eminence John Cardinal Njue and Rev. Antony Muheria.

Faithfuls in their numbers turned up for the function that was held at St. Charles Lwanga and adhered to the Covid-19 guidelines. President Kenyatta was represented in the function by CS Eugene Wamalwa. Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua, Makueni’s Prof. Kivutha Kibwana. Makueni and Kitui Deputy Governor’s were also at the function attended by hosts of elected and other leaders.
