Machakos County Government staff have been asked to tighten their belts as the County Government has no money to pay their May 2021 salaries.

According to a letter in our possession and dated 8th June 2021 from Deputy Governor Eng. Francis Maliti and addressed to all CECMs, Chief officers, Municipal board Managers, and Head of public service in the county, Maliti asked them to inform staff of the delay.

“We are currently experiencing a delay in the disbursement of funds by the National Government to the county. For this reason, we have not been able to pay May 2021 salaries on time.” The letter read in part.

“In view of this, I request you to inform all your staff. Nevertheless, we commit that the may 2021 salaries will be paid as soon as the county treasury receives funds from the National Government.,” Malitis letter went on.

Some of the County staff who spoke to Mauvoo News on condition of anonymity questioned why operations at the Governor’s office were not affected saying the monies that the county has should first go to pay their salaries first as they have responsibilities like rent and school fees.
