As Kenyans gear up toward the August General elections, many aspirants have come out to vie for different positions as the incumbents seek to retain their seats.
Mauvoo News got the opportunity to speak to Selina Mwende Kioko who is vying for the Women Representative seat in Machakos County on the Federal Party of Kenya ticket.
Selina who comes from Mlolongo in Mavoko sub-county said that what drove her to vie for the seat was to bring hope to the people of Machakos county and as well as ensure the voices of the vulnerable are heard.
“My aim is to give hope to the people of Machakos as a majority of them have lost hope and do not have the will to do anything. There are a lot of vulnerable people in our society who have been left behind. My main aim is to give them a voice and hear their needs,” Selina said.
She revealed that when elected as the Women Representative for Machakos County, she will ensure that the sanitary towels bill that allows them to be free would be implemented in Machakos county noting that despite the passage of the bill 3 years ago, girls were still suffering.
“During our times, the Nyayo regime used to give milk to children in school for free. This is a clear indication that sanitary towels can be given for free to ensure we keep our girls safe from the dangers of society like teenage pregnancies,” she said.
She further revealed that through her leadership she will develop a kitty dubbed “Selina Care” meant for helping people living with their disabilities and their caregivers.
Other aspirants for the Women Representative position in Machakos county are Joyce Kamene Kasimbi, Rita Ndunge, Ann Ndilo, and Liz Kisang’ya among others.
