The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has said that it is targeting to win more seats in the Lower Eastern Region in the 2022 general election.
Addressing the press in Machakos over the weekend, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said that the party was going to support different politicians from the country including Ukambani in the coming elections.
“We are here to make it very clear that in 2022 we want to win seats here in Machakos on an ODM ticket, we want to win seats in Ukambani and there is nothing to stop us because we are a national party,” he said.
Sifuna went ahead to specify that the Orange Democratic Party had not come into agreement with any other party concerning the 2022 elections.
” There is no such agreement unless you have seen it I don’t know which agreement you are talking about, as the Secretary-General of the party I am the custodian of all documents I have not seen any agreement regarding 2022,” said Sifuna.
“The Orange Democratic Movement is shocked by claims made by Hon. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka that there exists a secret pact between him and our party Leader H.E. Raila Odinga that will see Raila support him in 2022. We wish to state categorically that no such deal exists.” A statement by the party then read in part.
In their response, Wiper termed the remarks as extremely in bad taste appearing to have been tailored to cast aspersions on the character of Kalonzo Musyoka.
Different politicians around the country have shown their interest in winning the Ukambani votes with the Deputy President William Ruto being the latest where leaders allied to him have continued to drum up support for him.
Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama who had hosted different Professionals and businessmen at his home in Mua, Machakos County last week said that come 2022 he will have a party that will sponsor all candidates from the President to MCAs.
