Makueni County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim has reiterated that the ban on public gatherings is on and aspirants in Nguu/Masumba ward by-elections will not be allowed to hold campaign rallies.
Addressing journalists at his office, Maalim asked the aspirants to use a different way to seek votes.
“Public gatherings and meetings and even political rallies for impending by-elections were all suspended until the situation returns to normal. We have a By-election in Nguu/Masumba. The aspirants there must respect the president’s directive.” Maalim said.
” No rallies will be allowed until normalcy resumes. The aspirants in Nguu/Masumba please use other means to seek votes and reach voters. For now, we won’t allow any rallies,” He went on.
Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu declared the Nguu/Masumba ward seat vacant on Tuesday 6th July 2021. The official campaign period started from 25th August to 11th October 2021 from 7 am to 6 pm. The polls will take place on the 14th of October 2021.
