Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and Mbaitu FM proprietor has disclosed how she gave Mercy Mawia Radio presenter a job last year.
Ngilu who spoke during Mercy’s memorial service praised her as someone who was loved by her colleagues in the media and politicians and described it as rare.
“There is a lot we need to learn from someone like this who has lived a robust, purposeful life. She walked into my office one day and told me she was looking for a job, I told her I knew she was in Athiani, she was so confident. A lot of people don’t talk so confidently, I said how is His Excellency Kalonzo going to feel about me and she just said ‘i’ve served him enough and I’m just looking for a better opportunity at Mbaitu’, I said you are employed.” Ngilu revealed.
The ex-governor also disclosed how she received the sad news of Mercy Mawia’s demise from Sammy Mulinge while at a meeting.
“On that day, Mulinge called me about work and I asked him what is it again. He said there was some little problem and that we had lost mercy, i told him this was not a joke. I asked Mercy Mawia? and he said yes and that the husband was even there. James could barely speak and I knew we had lost Mercy…We have lost a great leader in the media Fraternity,” Ngilu went on.
“Don’t look for young girls to be buying you cologne like you said Mercy used to do, I will be buying you cologne. Now and then I will be checking how it’s going down. I want to wish you comfort, all of you friends come around and help James to heal.” She added.
She further called for the Country to adopt universal health care saluting the Genz’s over their recent protests. Ngilu urged James to take care of their daughter Stephanie praying for God’s strength and fortitude.
