5 MCA candidates from Nzaui/Kilili/Kalamba ward have withdrawn from the contest just 2 weeks before the elections.
Oscar Kivanda of NARC, Daniel Musembi of CCU, Benjamin Muoki of KANU, Jackson Nzioka an independent candidate, and Justus Masesi of Maendeleo Chapchap said that they decided to withdraw in line with the Unity agenda of the Azimio-One Kenya alliance.
They noted that after a lot of talks and consultations they agreed to back Francis Mutuku alias Muso who is vying on a Wiper ticket. Muso was the first leader of the majority in the Makueni county Assembly.
“We have agreed to support Muso so that Kalonzo who is the Wiper leader can have foot soldiers as we await the Azimio coalition to take the government after the general elections. Kalonzo has been an example of being the bigger person and shelved his bid thrice for Raila Odinga,”said Oscar Kivanda of NARC.
The five noted that they have faith in Francis Muso as his leadership was tremendous in the first assembly.
“We know what he can do, we want to get the majority leader position once again and not just that alone, we are grooming him so in the future he can be an MP and even a Governor at one point. Anyone hearing him talk should know he has our backing, he has promised to bring the interest of the community first. All those seeing and hearing me know I am supporting him and the wiper party,” Danel Musembi said.
However, despite the withdrawal, the MCA candidates might still in the ballot as the IEBC contractor is in the final stages of printing ballot papers, and several batches have since arrived in the country.
