Dr. Anthony Munyao, a TikTok user, has raised concerns over the rising number of new foundations being started in Ukambani.
Munyao explained that traditionally, foundations are launched by wealthy individuals with the intent of helping those in need, often supporting education and housing projects.
However, he pointed out a recent trend of many, especially musicians from the region, starting foundations, which he finds troubling.
He suggested that some of these foundations might be less about philanthropy and more about collecting contributions under false pretenses.
“I’m seeing everyone starting foundations. Even young people just out of school are launching them. How can we be sure that if we contribute, the money won’t be used for personal needs like schooling their own kids instead of helping the needy?” he questioned.
Munyao added that authentic foundations are usually established by those who are financially stable and have fewer personal financial burdens.
“Look at people like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, or the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation even President Ruto hasn’t started one despite his wealth. ” Munyao went on.
“How can someone who is still struggling financially justify starting a foundation? It’s like the trend we had with Ngone Mwaitu, where people contributed for personal needs, and now it’s foundations,” he said.
