Mwingi North MP Paul Nzengu has called for the release of abducted student Bernard Kavuli who was kidnapped on 22nd December at a petrol station in Ngong Town.
“I want to speak on the abduction of a young student from Mwingi North, Mumoni sub-county, Mumoni ward. Since 22nd December we received reports of his abduction and thought that it would end soon. He is now missing for over 2 weeks and we want to ask the government to release the young man.”MP Nzengu said.
“There was a time Bernard wanted to drop out from school and the report got to my office and I instructed the CDF office to pay his fees and he went back to school. He continued to benefit from the Mwingi North bursary. Such a young man cannot be a threat to the government. ” He narrated.
Nzengu disclosed that Kavuli could have been abducted for claiming on social media that people were murdered during the 2007/2008 Post-election violence.
“That is true, many people lost their lives. Why is the freedom of speech being limited because that is what happened. Does such warrant the abduction of that poor boy? This is a child from a very poor family who is helped by well-wishers. I don’t know what he wrote but that cannot be a justification to abduct him. If they killed him let them give us his body to go and bury.” The MP went on.
He noted that he has been receiving insults as an MP from the young people but he has never had any of them arrested or sent goons to them.
Bernard Kavuli is a fourth-year Journalism student at Mount Kenya University (MKU) and was among X users who engaged in a discussion about 2007/2008 Post-election Violence before his abductions.
