A middle-aged man has died as he underwent treatment at Mwingi level 4 hospital following a beating by an angry mob after he was caught stealing at a shop in Mwingi town Tuesday leaving him with severe injuries.
Confirming the incident, Mwingi Central sub-county commander Peter Mutuma said the man was among 3 others who escaped to be lynched by the angry mob.
Mutuma revealed that the four were seen by a watchman at Catholic church who blew his whistle to alert members of the public of ongoing theft incident in Mwingi.
He said the public immediately responded and they seized one and the other three escaped promising that they will face the full force of the law when arrested.
“We will not leave any stone unturned until all culprits are brought into book ,” the Sub County Commander stated.
The body was taken to Mwingi level 4 morgue as police launch investigations to arrest the escaped culprits.
Mwingi town residents have been living in fear as robbers take advantage of the Government curfew to rob them. Cases of robbery in Mwingi have been on the rise since the president-imposed dusk to dawn curfew.
Insecurity has escalated in several parts of the Country during the Government curfew that commences at 7 pm each day. Last week, thieves invaded different businesses at Mosquito, Kunda kindu, and Kulundu areas within Kitui town and stole different commodities resulting in the owners incurring a great loss.
