Police officers in Migwani sub-county, Mwingi West in Kitui arrested a Form one student at Ndaluni secondary who was accused of beating a fellow student to death.
The student reportedly engaged in a fight with the deceased and died while receiving treatment at Migwani hospital.
Confirming the incident, Migwani sub-county Commander of Police Kazungu Charo stated that the incident occurred on Sunday evening when the two were fighting although the cause of their fight was not established.
“The two boys were fighting and unfortunately one of the boys aged 17 years went into a coma and was taken to hospital but he passed on. The report of the incident was made to us very late at around 1:30 am on Monday by the school management led by the school principal,” Kazungu said in a phone call with Mauvoo News.
The Police commander also revealed that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been dispatched to investigate the matter and they are following up on the case as they question the boy at the police station.
“DCI on the ground are working on it and very soon we shall be able to give a comprehensive report as to what exactly led to the death of the young boy. The student who participated in that fight and unfortunately caused the death of his colleague we are holding in our custody as we continue with the investigations. We might also need to transfer the suspect to another police station to ensure that he is protected well as investigations continue,” Kazungu added.
The sub-county commander send his condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that the matter will be handled fairly to establish what led to the death of their son. The body of the deceased was taken to Mwingi level 4 hospital mortuary.
