Mwangangi: Why we are unable to meet grassroots development needs

Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has sharply criticized the national government for its failure to fully devolve funds, a move he claims has stifled development at the grassroots level.

Speaking at an event at the Kathiani Salvation Army, Mwangangi lamented that the county government receives only 15 percent of the total budget which he argues is insufficient to meet the needs of the local communities.

“The grassroots have not gotten the desired development because the county government gets only 15 percent of the budgetary allocation,” Mwangangi stated.

He further emphasized that increasing the funding would enable the completion of numerous stalled projects, significantly improving the region’s infrastructure and public services.

“If the funding is increased, then some of the projects not done would be a thing of the past,” he added.

Mwangangi called on the national government to demonstrate its commitment to devolution by allocating more resources to county governments.

“If the government really supports devolution, then there should be more funding to counties even more than national government” The Deputy Governor urged.
