Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has come out guns blazing at Machakos MPs taking credit for the modern market projects.
Speaking at Katangi recently, Mwangangi said that the program was under the County Government and it was an initiative that governor Wavinya Ndeti had requested the president.
“I want to caution MPs in this county to cease from interfering with county projects. When a project is brought in the county they are busy visiting it and yet they did not lobby for it,” said Mwangangi.
“I was there with Governor Wavinya when she engaged the President about markets, she was given several markets and during her trip to the USA with His Excellency on their way back she was added more markets. No MP has the technical capacity to run those markets because the county government will run everything from the land where they will be constructed to the engineers that will be doing the construction. After all this, you will see a member of Parliament claiming the project yet they did nothing, ” he added.
Last year, the national government announced a partnership with county Governments to build modern markets under the economic stimulus program.
Some MPs have been taking credit for the projects with some launching the construction not just in Machakos but other parts of the country. In Makueni, Mwengi Mutuse Kibwezi West MP and Governor Mutula clashed over markets last month.
39 metropolitan markets countrywide are set to be constructed for 400 million each and County markets at 150 million each with the 2 levels of government cost sharing.
