Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has revealed that he has distanced himself from public events since Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment.
Mutuse, who was the main architect behind the motion that led to Gachagua’s ouster, finally broke his silence while addressing a crowd in Tharaka Nithi, shedding light on his reasons for staying out of the spotlight.
“I chose to avoid public functions and even refrained from discussing the impeachment,” Mutuse said.
“I didn’t want to be seen as stirring unnecessary tension. But now, I believe it’s time to make my stance clear.” He added.

Mutuse urged Gachagua to accept his new reality rather than “fighting a losing battle.”
The lawmaker emphasized that both the Senate and the judiciary have upheld the decision, marking it final.
“Even strength must give way to wisdom,” he remarked, adding that Kenya’s democratic structure is rooted in the Constitution of 2010. “In our democracy, numbers matter, and this was a decision made by those elected to represent the people.”
For the last few days, Mutuse has faced backlash, especially from leaders within his Ukambani region. Some have branded him a traitor for sponsoring the impeachment motion.
Nevertheless, he stood firm, maintaining that the move was in the nation’s best interest and reflective of democratic principles adding that all was for a better Kenya.
The speech marked Mutuse’s first public commentary since the impeachment was finalized.
