Mutuse asks Government to step up efforts to fight coronavirus

Machakos County Chief of Staff Mwengi Mutuse has asked both the National and County Governments to step up efforts to ensure the dreaded coronavirus does not spread. Mutuse was Speaking during a fundraising at ACK Emali in Kibwezi west over the weekend.

He encouraged members of the public to follow guidelines to keep themselves away from the virus that has resulted in thousands of deaths across the world.

“Our people need to follow the given guidelines to protect themselves from this disease. If this disease can hit China an advanced country and Italy where civilization started and take a toll on them the way it has, if it comes to us it will be a great danger.” Mutuse cautioned.

“I want to also thank our Governments both National and devolved for the effort they have done to educate citizens and also for the preparedness they are showing in case of an outbreak,” he added.

Echoing the remarks of Mutuse, Wiper Chairman in Makueni County Francis Muso advised the public to take seriously the outbreak of coronavirus in this country saying is a threat to the lives of the people.

“It is not a laughing matter. They told me that this coronavirus kills the white men and to Africans, it’s just a normal cold. This is a bad joke. I congratulate the Church for adhering to the directive that has seen us washing our hands thoroughly. Let’s maintain proper hygiene to avoid our people getting in trouble, ” Muso advised.

This comes as Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe on Wednesday confirmed three more coronavirus cases bringing the total number to 7.

The president on Sunday announced the closure of all schools until further notice to avoid the spread of this killer disease. Over 20 countries in Africa, Kenya being one of them have reported coronavirus cases.

Makueni County Emergency committee suspended market days, leisure sports, Miraa chewing and night clubs in the county in directives issued Monday to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the county.

Machakos and Kitui County Assembly have suspended their sittings over the coronavirus scare.
