Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo jr has lauded Kenyan-born Bahrainian athlete Yavi Mutile for her outstanding performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Paris Olympic Games.
Governor Kilonzo via a Facebook post attributed Yavi’s triumph to her relentless hard work and unwavering discipline leading to her exceptional athletic career over the years.
He also emphasized the significant role her parents have played in her success.
“I had the occasion to sit with Yavi Mutile and her parents in Wote last year. Her victory in Paris is a testament to her sheer hard work and discipline. Her parents have played a crucial role in shaping her career,” the statement read in part.
“This is proof that we have talent in all parts of Kenya. We, the people of Makueni are proud to have produced an Olympic champion is also a reminder to the country to be deliberate on matters of sports. Congratulations Yavi, your parents, and coach for a stellar performance,” Kilonzo added.
The 24-year-old 2-time Makueni native transferred her allegiance from Kenya to represent Bahrain after she turned 15, clinched a gold medal for Bahrain in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, setting a new Olympic record on Tuesday, August 6 after overtooking defending champion Peruth Chemutai of Uganda in a thrilling sprint finish setting a new record of 8:52.76.
