Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua has defended Interior cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i over his mentioning on the fake gold saga.
While speaking to the media, Mutua acknowledged that the Cabinet secretary has done a commendable job and should not be used as a conduit to divert the country from mega corruption scandals.

“I have noticed some excitement from some people who are asking for Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi to explain this or that. From the information I have, Dr. Matiang’i is doing a great job and he should not be used to divert us from what is really happening. I ask my fellow politicians to leave Dr. Matiang’i alone and to know that mentioning him will not slow down the investigations against some of them, “said Mutua.

Mutua however urged the DCI and other investigative bodies not to be distracted by the gold scandal and forget bigger scandals that have led to loss of public money.

“Let us not forget the Dams scandal, the KRA saga and the myriad cases of corruption that have robbed us of badly needed cash and development. We are still waiting for action. Please do not let us down,” he added.

Mutua insisted on the need for every leader and senior public servant to undergo a lifestyle audit. He says this will catch corrupt leaders who have acquired money illegally.

He further said that the wealth that cannot be accounted for should confiscated and used to serve the public by doing development.

“That way, you can tell when one has acquired 250 million shillings through conning others. Sudden acquisition of wealth should be explained. What cannot be explained should revert back to the state and used to provide roads, water, education and more for our great people of Kenya, “he noted.

He said any leader accused of swindling the United Arab Emirates ruler should repatriated to Dubai for trial and jailing.
