Mutisya Maweu hits back at Sir Mwenge after attack on Benga artists

YouTuber Mutisya Maweu has come out to defend Kamba Benga artists following claims by Sir Mwenge of Musyi FM that they failed to attend the burial of Wavinya Mwiitu wa Muthiani’s father.

Taking to Facebook, Maweu hit back at presenters who expect artists to show up at events, reminding them that media personalities themselves rarely attend functions without being paid.

“Presenters need to stop attacking Benga artists. They also don’t go to events for free or promote artists without a fee,” Maweu wrote in a scathing post.

He further claimed that only a handful of presenters genuinely support events without expecting a payoff.

“They’re used to being treated like VIPs, given money like women, and most don’t even contribute,” he added, sparking mixed reactions from fans and followers.

The remarks come days after Sir Mwenge criticized the absence of Benga artists at Wavinya Mwiitu wa Muthiani’s father’s funeral and at the burial of former radio presenter Mercy Mawia, calling it a “shameful” display.

During his Saturday show, Ngui Situ, Sir Mwenge voiced his frustration, suggesting he might reconsider supporting artists in the future.

“Presenters have played a huge role in promoting Benga music, but if this is how artists repay that loyalty, it feels pointless,” he said.
