Makueni-born athlete Mutile Yavi has revealed the reason behind her running for Bahrain despite being born in Kenya.
In a past interview during her visit to Makueni, Mutile who comes from Kaiti Constituency in revealed that she wanted to really represent Kenya but the competition was stiff and when she got the chance to go to Bahrain she moved.
Mutile who started to run in her home area moved to Nairobi for training where despite running severally she did not qualify forcing her to pledge her allegiance to Bahrain at the age of 15 years.
“The reason why I did not represent my country is because I used to go to the trials and I didn’t qualify for the Kenya team so when I got an opportunity to go to Bahrain it became my first priority though I really wanted to represent my country,” she said.
Mutile won a gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics stirring reactions from Kenyans given that she is Kenyan born representing another country.
